Doping Athletes in Soccer

Doping phenomena were almost being inseparable partner with the sport competition. Why partner?? A kind of doping is blood-doping which take the athlete’s blood in a fit condition and re-inject it to the athlete’s body itself shortly before the competition begin. However, we find many doping methods so far. Sometimes the athlete used cocaine, PRP (platelet rich plasma) technique, etc. Nowadays, although FIFA had denied this alternative way, some athletes still did it to boost his physical endurance during the competition. Nevertheless, this activity might injure the athlete himself if he did it regularly in a long time. Here are some cases of doping athlete in soccer



SALVADOR CARMONA
Carmona is currently a retired Mexican soccer athlete because of his sin for using steroid stanozolol. He was known using the drug in a two-separate doping test and he was suspended for a lifetime sanction. Yet in 2007, he was found playing in a competition between Cruz Azul and Pachuca in semifinal level. Therefore, his team was disqualified and Pachuca advanced to the final. During his career, he had 85 performances in Mexican team since his debut in 1996 and participated in 1998 and 2002 World Cup competition as a core player.
He failed the anti doping test in 2005 together with his teammate, Aaron Galindo then they prohibited to participate the 2005 FIFA Consideration Cup. When he was tested in his 2nd anti doping test, there was an argument that his test result had been destroyed.

MARCO BORRIELLO
Two kinds of corticosteroids were found in his sample urine and it made the AC Milan Striker, Marco Boriello was in trouble. Automatically, he made himself be accused as a doping athlete. As Soccerlatest told, if CONI found cortosine in his 2nd test, it would be a high liability for CONI imposed a sanction to Borriello for 10-12 months football ban. This report was a bad news for Milan. Even though he rarely played as an important role player, Borriello who was born in Napoli had been a savior because he had contributed 3 goals for Milan.


DIEGO MARADONA
Do you still remember what happened in world cup 2004? The Hands of God, Maradona was the one example of doping athlete. He began using cocaine in Barcelona in 1983. By the time he was playing for Napoli he had a regular addiction, which began to interfere with his ability to play football.
Over the years following his retirement, on January 4, 2000, while having his long holiday in Punta del Este, Uruguay, Maradona had to be rushed to the emergency room and the doctors stated that traces of cocaine were found in his blood and Maradona had to left Argentina and went to Cuba in order to follow a drug rehab plan.
On 18 April 2004, doctors reported that Maradona had suffered a heavy myocardial infarction following a cocaine overdose; he was admitted to intensive care in a Buenos Aires hospital. He was taken off the respirator on 23 April and remained in intensive care for several days before being discharged on 29 April. He tried to return to Cuba, in the years leading up to the heart attack, but his family opposed, having filed an official request to exercise his legal care. On 8 May 2007, Maradona appeared on Argentine television station and stated that he had quit drinking and had not used drugs in two and a half years.

ADRIAN MUTU
This is the hottest issue of doping athlete in football (soccer) players. Adrian Mutu was punished to be banned to play football for 9 months due to his positive test of using substance sibutramine. The punishment of Viola player had been commenced since January 12th, 2010 after the positive tests following the game against Bari on January 10 and Lazio on January 20 in the Italian Cup and will be ended at October 20th, 2010. Mutu was certainly a big miss for Fiorentina because he had scored 50 goals for the club since joining with Juventus after this disappointing spell.
Those are only some examples of doping athlete in soccer. In fact, there’s more doping athletes in soccer can’t mentioned here. It showed that doping had become a trend in sport competition. As the youth, you may not use this alternative in order you get achievements or bonus because actually it is not good for your health and has an addicted potentiality. Take care, guys!
